Just when you think you're up to date on all the current research, something comes out of nowhere to surprise you. This device was brought to my attention by a lovely legally blind (meaning both eyes WITH glasses are less than 20/200 vision) patient who had just ordered one. It's supposed to help the blind to see!
What is the device? The name is eSight and they are electronic glasses that use a camera to take real-time video and display it on a screen that sits right in front of your eyes. You are able to take photos and save them so you can zoom in on them later AND you zoom in on things you are seeing in real time with the 24x zoom!
For people who cannot achieve good vision, even with glasses or contacts, a huge way to help them see better is by magnifying objects using different devices. This puts all your magnification abilities in real time! My patient said that she could "read the 20/20 line" with her eSight. AMAZING technology.
